A retrograde tracer (Fluorogold) labels neurons within a graft of embryonic spinal cord that had been placed in the injured spinal cord of an adult rat. The tracer was placed more than 5 spinal cord segments away from the transplant, suggesting that neurons from embryonic CNS grafts are able to extend axons into the host spinal cord.
