The Confocal Facility at Drexel University College of Medicine
The Confocal facility consists of a recently purchased Leica TCS SP2 microscope. The facility is situated on the 2nd floor of Queen Lane in the Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy. Training on the new system is on a monthly basis or less, depending on demand.
Rules
- The Confocal Facility is managed by the Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy. Dr. Lise Rioux is director of the facility. She establishes procedures for use of the microscope, schedule training sessions, schedule of the microscope, oversees day-to-day operation and deals with any problems or issues that arise with the facility. In her absence, Dr. Son supervises operation.
- The microscope is housed in R252. Confocal users can obtain a key from either
Dr. Rioux, or The Neurobiology and Anatomy Office. The time reservation
calendar is located on the web at http://neurobiology.drexelmed.edu/Department/confocal/.
To reserve time, e-mail Lise Rioux. - Use of the microscope is restricted to people who have completed the training course. Charge for training is $100.00 per person.
- The microscope is available for use in blocks of 4-hour sessions. Two sessions will be scheduled for each day, one from 9 AM to 1 PM and the other from 1 PM to 5 PM. Evening and weekend sessions are also available, but only to qualified and experienced users. 10 weekday sessions and 7 weeknight/weekend sessions will be available each week for a potential total of 520 weekday and 884 overall sessions per year. Some time slots may not be available due to microscope maintenance or special training sessions.
- Users can only sign up for one session in advance. Once a session is completed, you can sign up for the next one. If you sign up for a session, you will incur a user fee whether you show up or not, unless you cancel your session 24 hours advance notice (or Friday by noon for a Monday session).
- Charges for use of the facility will be $125 for each 4-hour session billed individually.
- Routine advice and assistance in operating the confocal microscope is available from Dr. Rioux (215-991-8758) for a fee of $50.00 per hour. Individual researchers are responsible for conducting their own imaging sessions on the microscope.
- A DVD, and CD burner are available for recording data generated on the microscope as well as a slot for flash drive, but researchers are responsible for purchasing their own CDs and DVDs.
- Images must be transfer by the end of the month when the hard drive will be erased.
